GWR  Hydra  Diagram G19
Fitted Wagon For Carrying Road Vehicles
- Skill Builder Kit -

PROTOTYPE. These vehicles were built by the GWR in 1908 and ran in service into British Railways days. The GWR designation HYDRA covered a range of low-floored wagons intended to carry road vehicles such as horse drawn carriages and motorcars and lorries.

They were designed with a gently sloping floor so that a vehicle could be driven onto the wagon from an end loading dock and then sit within the well of the wagon. This enabled tall road vehicles to remain within the loading gauge.

They were brake fitted and classified as ‘brown’ vehicles and were intended to be marshalled in passenger trains. They were finished in attractive brown passenger livery with yellow lettering.

KIT. This is a very straightforward kit with a few parts requiring simple folding. Some simple overlay work and a few small parts to make it an interesting project.

The instruction are comprehensive with a text that was written alongside building a sample model and describes construction step by step detailing tools and techniques used.
